Fishing

Went deep sea fishing today, first time. Wind picked up overnight, working hard to bring the promised rain, and the ocean didn't look inviting at all. The boat captain said no problem, just won't see the whales, the big guys don't like the big waves. We went from North Lake, to the eastern tip of PEI. The south wind worked up some major waves around the lighthouse, and there was a twenty something group of grey seals sitting in the shallows, just where the boats won't get too close.
Fishing was nothing like what I'm used to. Get the line with the sinker and a couple hooks with attached plastic feathers into the water a few meters deep, keep yanking until the fish gets on, then pull it out and get the fish off. Wash, rinse, repeat and watch the excitement building up to some unreasonable level. Today was a mackerel day, so everyone from the dozen people on the boat caught a bunch of mackerel. As we were fishing we noticed sea birds gathering around, all of them went frantic when the fishing was over and the fish was being cleaned. Never realized the quite large sea gulls are so agile, the fate of each fish remains was decided in under a second! At this point I was seriously concerned that I wouldn't be able to clean the phone of the fish smell, so the bird performance was committed to my memory only.
Later the catch was fried, and thoroughly enjoyed 😃 The rain came, and the ocean showed yet another facet of is character... so good to be inside!

In the evening, PEI oysters on the beach... simply amazing.
